World News: OMG WMD found in FL |
Thursday, February 24, 2005 @ 09:44PM The United States has searched high and low in Iraq while during the whole time the Weapons of Mass Destruction were located inside a Florida School. A 13-year old student was suspended for 10 days because he it was alleged he assaulted his teacher with a RUBBER BAND. He did not hit the teacher with the rubber band but rather flung it and it landed on the teacher’s desk which was in the same general direction of the teacher. "They said if he would have aimed it a little more and he would have gotten it closer to her face he would have hit her in the eye," mother Jenette Rojas said. They suspended the student because he could have hit the teacher in the eye with it if he took the time to aim the rubber band. While it might be possible to understand the punishment if they gave the student detention for doing what he did but to suspend him for 10 days. Back in the day, suspension was no more than a week if you got in a fight and actually hit other people. The United States of America is one fucked up country.

World News: No More Late Fees Explained |
Thursday, February 24, 2005 @ 02:47PM There is significant amount of confusion about how Blockbuster’s no more late fees policy works. Many news organizations have reported the new policy incorrectly or have left out some of the details. After studying how their new policy works and after talking to an employee I have found it necessary to explain how the new policy works and how it affects customers. 1. It is true there are no more late fees. 2. Movies still have a due date. 3. You have up to 7 days past the due date to return movies. 4. On the fourth day past the due date you will receive an automated phone call letting you know you still have the movie and it four days late. 4a. If you return the movie a day or two after receiving this phone call you will not be charged anything and will not owe anything to Blockbuster. 4b. You may still receive the automated phone telling you to bring your movie back even if you have already returned it. If you receive the automated phone call and you did return the movie it is best to call Blockbuster to make sure they received the movie and checked it in. 4c. You may also receive a post card letting you know you have a movie past the due date and just like with the automated phone call there is a chance you will receive the letter even if you already returned the movie. 5. On the eighth day past the due date you will be charged for the movie minus what you paid to rent it. If the movie came out very recently you will be charged the retail price of the movie minis what you paid to rent it (not including tax). If the movie is an older movie you will be charge the used movie price minus what you paid to rent it. The price of the movie is determined at the time you rented it. What this means is if the price of the movie is $21.99 and you paid $4 to rent the movie, you will be charged 17.99 if you keep the movie and never return it.

World News: No more late fees and movies not being in stock |
Thursday, February 24, 2005 @ 01:17PM 1) On January 1st, Blockbuster entertainment ceased charging late fees for movies returned late. Customers are now able to return movies up to a week past the due date without having to pay any extra fees or charges.
2) It is also a fact that most Blockbuster stores are routinely out of the most recent movies.
However what many people fail to realize is that number one is not the primary reason for number two. While people can keep movies past the due date most people are not more than a day late. People are not keeping their movies and waiting till the last minute to return the movies before they get charged for them, as some people want to believe. Some people keep the movie as long as they can before they are charged for the movie; however, this group of people makes up a very small percentage of total movie renters.
The primary reason for the rental stores to be out of new movies more than they have been in the past is because with the policy more people have decided to rent movies and active members decided to rent more often. When they stopped charging late fees they hoped to make the lost revenue up by hoping customers would rent more often. Well, customers are renting more often however the stores are still adjusting for the higher demand on movie rentals.
The second reason which is causing movies to out of stock is how customers use their Movie Pass. The Movie Pass is a monthly membership introduced last year, which allows customers to have unlimited movie rentals, two movies are a time. Some people who have the movie pass rent several movies a week and they usually rent the newest ones. Other customers on the movie pass get a couple new movies on Tuesday when they come out and they do not return them till the following Tuesday when new movies come out again. With the second group of Movie Pass customers holding onto their movies it causes there to be fewer number of available new movies on Friday and Saturday, which are the two biggest days for renting movies. ...

Entertainment: Harry Potter and the Pile of Crap |
Monday, February 14, 2005 @ 09:59PM In the past few months I have seen a numerous movies including Paparazzi, Cellular, the Cookout, Catwoman, Shark Tales, Alien vs. Predator, First Daughter, Welcome to Mouseport, Envy, Judgment, High School High, Ernest in the Army, Shaft in Africa, Tigerland and what I thought was the worst movie of them all The Notebook. When I would watch movies, I could at least say, “Well at least it is not as bad as the other movies I have seen recently. Hell, compared to the movies I listed above, The first $20 million is a good movie and Hackers is a great movie.
That is until I tried to watch the Harry Potter movies. I tried watching the first one and I could not even get through the entire movie. All I could think about is “abra why the hell won’t this endus”; the movie just kept going. I made it though the fist hour and a half and all the movie had was a bunch of short bits ala Monty Python and the Meaning of Life sans the comedy. It takes almost an hour and a half to establish a plot. I managed to make watch the entire Notebook but I was unable to watch the entire first Harry Potter movie and I hate romance movies (they are all the same damn movie with different actors doing and saying the same damn thing).
So I stopped watching the first Harry Potter movie and decided to watch the third Harry Potter movie, the reason I skipped the second one was because I was hopping by the third movie Hermione had grown up to be like Lindsay Lohan in the Harry Potter SNL skit she was part of. Imagine my disappointment when I start watching the movie and Hermione looks like a fourteen year old.

World News: We are currently out of that movie |
Monday, February 14, 2005 @ 05:30PM And no, there is nothing the employees can do about it.
The following are things you should keep in mind before you verbally abuse the employee for not having the movie you want.
If you visit your local movie rental establishment and you are looking for a movie that came out very recently, that is within the last couple of weeks, there is a good chance they will not have the movie you are looking for.
This is especially true if you are coming into the establishment on a Saturday. Friday is one of the biggest days to rent movies and any movie rented on Friday is not due back Sunday or even later. So by Saturday night all of the new movies will have been rented out Friday and not be expected to come back soon.
In order to meet demand rental companies would probably have to have 1000 copies of each of the most recent titles. Of course the demand for that movie will only last a couple of weeks and after that time the store will have to find a way to get rid of 1000 copies.
I do realize that today is Valentines Day and many of you are looking for a copy of The Notebook. Since today is Valentines Day there is not a chance in hell any rental store will not have it. However seeing as The Notebook is a romance movie you can pick any damn romance movie and will be the same damn thing. All romance movies are the same. Guy goes after girl, girl at first resists, couple falls in love, one or both their families protests and tries to break them up, they go against their family’s wishes, get married and finally die together. This is they same store are it was written hundreds of years ago when it was called SHAKESPEARE. (Click on Readmore/Comments to read the rest of this rant)

Entertainment: The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle Movie (2000) |
Tuesday, February 8, 2005 @ 11:00PM I was visiting RottenTomatoes and I was shocked when I saw "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" only scored a rotten rating and a reading of 44%. I think I know why the credits rated this "movie" so low. When the critics were watching the movie they actually reviewed it as if it was an actual real movie. The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle was supposed to be one really long gag reel. With quotes like this how can you take this gag reel serious? Narrator: And so RBTV changed its name from Really Bad Television to Rocky and Bullwinkle Television Bullwinkle: What's the difference? Narrator:And then through the miracle of computer-generated digital technology, Minnie reached into the television set and signed the contract. But when she tried to pull the contract out, the expensive animated characters were instantly converted into even more expensive motion picture stars. Fearless Leader: There has never been a way to actually destroy a cartoon character until now. Pottsylvanian scientist: What about that movie Roger Rabbit? Fearless Leader: Shut up. This is totally different.

Common Sense: American Stupidity |
Saturday, February 5, 2005 @ 09:34PM The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
